Our verdict

Antiparos sits just seven minutes by ferry from Paros, but the two islands operate on completely different scales. Paros is one of the most polished destinations in the Cyclades — Naoussa harbour, multiple ports, an active nightlife, and a serious restaurant scene that has positioned it as the sophisticated Cycladic base of choice. Antiparos is what Paros was thirty years ago: smaller, slower, with a single Chora built around a fifteenth-century Venetian castro, and one main pedestrian street where the cafés set their chairs out at sunset.

Antiparos has, paradoxically, also become a discreet celebrity hideaway over the past decade — Tom Hanks owns a house there, and a handful of high-end villas have appeared above the south coast — but the village character remains intact. It is genuinely small.

Choose Paros for variety, restaurants, ferry connections, and the polished Cycladic experience. Choose Antiparos for a deliberate slowdown — a few days of quiet, walking distances, swimming at small beaches like Soros or Apantima, and dinner at the same table you discovered the night before. Many travellers combine both: a base on Paros with a day trip or one-night stay on Antiparos.
