Our verdict
Santorini and Paros offer two different versions of "the perfect Cyclades trip" — one defined by an extraordinary single landscape, the other by genuine all-round capability.
Santorini's caldera is unmatched, but the island is small and the experience tends toward viewing rather than doing. Paros has white-cubist villages (Naoussa, Lefkes, Marpissa), good beaches on all four coasts, a working harbour town in Parikia, and convenient ferry connections that make it a natural hub for hopping. Naoussa in particular has become one of the most fashionable destinations in Greece, with serious restaurants and a Cycladic-with-cosmopolitan-energy feel.
Choose Santorini for short, photogenic stays where the landscape is the destination. Choose Paros for week-long trips, families, or as a base for island-hopping. Paros also offers the best of both worlds in price terms — more affordable than Santorini, more polished than the smaller Cyclades, with infrastructure that handles families and solo travellers equally well.
