Lesvos
A complete circuit of the island — from the Aegean's ouzo capital to the birthplace of Sappho, medieval castles to petrified forests.

Greece's third-largest island is one of its most rewarding. Lesvos combines exceptional natural diversity — volcanic landscapes, pine forests, salt marshes — with a deep cultural heritage stretching from ancient Sappho to the Nobel Prize-winning poet Elytis. It rewards slow travel.
Getting there
Domestic + summer charter airport at Mytilini — Aegean, Sky Express, charters. Ferries from Piraeus dock at Mytilini Port, overnight via Chios. Daily year-round.

Tip: Daily summer ferry to Ayvalik (Turkey) takes ~1.5h — easy add-on.
When to Visit
Lesvos is the third-largest Greek island — far too big to feel touristy. Olive groves cover 30% of the island, and the food (sardines from Kalloni, ouzo from Plomari) defines the experience. Best May-October. The Petrified Forest is open year-round. Cruise tourism is minimal — this is an island for people who travel.
